2015 Wrap-Up and Favourites Wow! I just spent nearly an hour talking about all my highlights and memories from the year 2015 and then somehow it all got deleted. -_- seriously
I can't remember all that I wrote, so what I'm going to do is just do the second half of the post that I hadn't yet started, which is my 2015 Wrap-Up. Sorry guys for not doing the other part, it just randomly deleted all of what I'd written. Anyway, in the year of 2015 I managed to complete my goal of reading 38 books by reading 39. I'm pretty pleased about that, but that wasn't all that I read, those are only the ones which I read after getting Goodreads so I could track what I read. In all I probably read about 50 (ish) books but we'll just called it 39. I read a lot of great books and found a love for some new and amazing authors. Anyway, what I'm going to do is list all of the books I read in 2015! If you just want to skip this part then just scroll down till you get to my 2016 reading goals title! Let's go : 1) Paper Towns by John Green 2) Life With a Sprinkle of Glitter by Louise Pentland 3) The Ghosts of Heaven my Marcus Sedgwick 4) Insurgent by Veronica Roth 5) The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey 6) Little Women by Louisa M Alcott 7) Bart Simpson's Treehouse of Horror : Fun-Filled Frightfest 8) Finding Audrey by Sophie Kinsella 9) A Work In Progress by Connor Franta 10) Geek Girl by Holly Smale 11) If I Stay by Gayle Forman 12) Where She Went by Gayle Forman 13) Flame by Amy Kathleen Ryan 14) Fire Colour One by Jenny Valentine 15) The Art of Being Normal by Lisa Williamson 16) The Sin Eater's Daughter by Melinda Salisbury 17) Shadows by Paula Weston 18) The Cardturner by Louis Sachar 19) The Revolution of Ivy by Amy Engel 20) The Amazing Book Is Not On Fire by Dan and Phil 21) The Rabbit Ate My Homework by Rachel Elizabeth Cole 22) Demon Road by Derek Landy 23) Crystal Cadets by Anne Toole 24) Grandpa's Great Escape by David Walliams 25) I Funny by James Patterson 26) I Even Funnier by James Patterson 27) Sophie Someone by Hayley Long 28) The Princess Diaries by Meg Cabot 29) Silence Is Goldfish (SAMPLER) by Annabel Pitcher 30) Teen Idol by Meg Cabot 31) The Boy Next Door by Katie Van Ark 32) City of Bones by Cassandra Clare 33) City of Ashes by Cassandra Clare 34) City of Glass by Cassandra Clare 35) The Wolf Wilder by Katherine Rundell 36) All Wrapped Up by Holly Smale Goodreads is playing up and not letting me view the titles of the remaining three books. But I just remembered a few more of the titles that I read this year but forgot to record, I'll include them now. 37) Geek Girl: Model Misfit by Holly Smale 38) Geek Girl: Picture Perfect by Holly Smale 39) Geek Girl: All That Glitters by Holly Smale 40) The Martian by Andy Weir 41) In Real Life by Joey Graceffa 42) Love, Tanya by Tanya Burr 43) Ruby Red by Kerstin Gier 44) Sapphire Blue by Kerstin Gier 45) Emerald Green by Kerstin Gier That's a few more that I'm 100% sure that I read in 2015. There is more, but I'm not completely sure about them. Anyway, as you can see I did actually read a lot more that 39 books. Let's get into my 2016 goals. 2016 Reading Goals For 2016, I have a lot of smaller goals as well as some bigger ones. Some of these I'm well on the way to completing so yay! Anyway this year I'm aiming to read 64 books in total. It's that number for a reason, because that's the number of books roughly (maybe one or two less) on my TBR pile and that leads me onto my second goal, which is to read all the books on my TBR pile. That may sound impossible, but I promise you it's not! In order to completely read all of the books on my TBR pile, I've put myself on a book-buying ban for the whole year, apart from book gifted to me for my birthday and Christmas. I am still accepting books for review, just not purchasing any new books. This may or may not work out and I may not be able to stop myself from a good bargain, but I'm going to try. Obviously I will be purchasing one or two new releases, but they are ones that I will read straight away. Those are my main goals but I do have some smaller ones that I would like to complete. One of these is to read as many of the series on my shelves as possibl, but here are the main ones I want to finish : The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare (I have books 4,5 and 6 to read) Harry Potter by J.K Rowling (Which I have already planned a buddy read with @admirerofbooks on Instagram. We will be reading a book each month, starting in January.) The Maze Runner by James Dashner (I was gifted the first movie for Christmas, but I want to read the book first and I do own all of the books, so it's definitely time! Anyway, that is all of my goal for 2016! Let me know below how many books you read in 2015 and how many you are aiming for in 2016! BYE!

December Wrap-Up! HAPPY NEW YEAR! In the month of December I managed to read a total of 8 books and one graphic novel (which is not pictured),which totals to an amount of 2774 pages! This might not sound like a lot, but I'm pretty proud of it as I have been busy. Anyway, let's have a look at the books I read this month! Let's start with the 1 graphic novel I read. My Little Pony : Equestria Girls by Ted Anderson, Katie Cook, Tony Fleecs and Andy Price I requested this on NetGalley from the publisher/author in trade for a review, so I do therefore have a review for it, which I will link in a minute. Anyway, this was my second ever graphic novel and I did really enjoy it, though I think I'm still trying to get into the whole graphic novel thing, which explains my lower rating. If you don't know, this graphic novel features the gang from My Little Pony and it has two different stories in it. One of these is about five of the girls, Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie, Rarity, Applejack and Fluttershy and how they became friends. The girls are asked a question and it shows each girls' answer. It really gave you a better idea about each character and definitely added more depth to the friendship between the five girls. The second story is about the same five girls, but also Sunset Shimmer. Sunset is new to the school, so the girls take her in and try and make her happier, especially as it's coming up to Christmas. The girls decide that it would be fun for each girl to host a sleepover at their house and invite Sunset along to join them all and help her settle in. However, secrets and photos from the nights end up travelling around the school and the girls all suspect Sunset. The girls start investigating to prove who it really is? I finished 8 books, just didn't read all of them in the month. The one book that I didn't completely read in December was The Martian by Andy Weir, which I only read the remaining 200 or so pages that I didn't read in November. I do already have a review and a favourite quotes blog post up so I will link them down below. Anyway, if you don't know what this book is about it's about a crew of Astronauts, who are part if a Mars exploration mission. When a sandstorm hits, the crew all rush to get the ship back off, however, one Astronaut, Mark Watney, gets injured and the crew assume he's dead. The storm is picking up and they can't waste anymore time otherwise they could all end up dead or stranded on Mars. They leave, but surprise! Mark Watney is alive, and now also stranded on Mars! This book captures all the struggles and problems he may have as he fights to survive until the crew can come back and get him. Did I mention that won't be for a few years? Yep, he is alone on Mars for a few years, with a lack of food, water and basically everything else you need to survive. Will he survive? Also, this book is being turned into a movie. Actually, it's already out in cinemas and I believe it comes out on DVD on February 8th in the UK. I'm not sure about everywhere else, but I'm guessing it's either before that date or close to it. I was in my local charity shop and I saw this and instantly picked it up because since I had read The Princess Diaries, I had really wanted to explore more of Meg's books. Anyway, this only cost 50p and I turned out to love this one a lot more than TPD. If you haven't heard of his before, it's about a girl called Jenny. Jenny is great at keeping secrets, which is why she was chosen to be the school newspaper's anonymous advice columnist. She's that good at it, that when Luke Striker (a huge movie star) comes to the school undercover to research for a role he will be playing, she's the one who has to lead him around the school and prevent anyone from finding out his true identity. However, Luke doesn't make her job easy and soon everyone at school, the local newspapers and everyone knows his true identity. Chaos starts and Jenny is stuck right in the middle of all of it. Rate - 4.25/5 I don't currently have a review uploaded for this book, but if you guys want a review then I will do one. Comment below if you want me to do a review for it. It just wasn't as good as I originally thought it was, so I have lowered the rate because of that. This book is about Maddy and Gabe, two teenage ice skaters. They've always skated together since day 1 and they both love each other. They haven't told each other and they can't really have a relationship anyway in case it damages their ice skating relationship. Gabe's also the type of boy, who mucks around with every girl in the school. He's never had a relationship that's lasted longer than two weeks. Gabe and Maddy get together, but will they stay together or will they permanently damage their skating careers? Rate - 3.75/5 I do have a review coming soon for this, so stay tuned for that! Most of you will probably know that Geek Girl is one of my favourite series of al time. They're just such fun and easy reads, which every person can enjoy. Anyway, when I heard that Holly was bringing a new novella out, I knew I had to get it and read it, but I wanted to wait till it was nearer to Christmas. I finally read it and I loved it as I do with every Geek Girl book. This book is about a young girl called Feo, who lives with her mother in a large, snowy area in Russia. They are wolf wilders. Rich people keep wolves as pets and when they no longer want them, they are sent to Feo and her mother, Marina. It's their job to teach the wolves how to be wolves again. They teach them how to run, how to hunt and how to defend themselves up against over threats. When they are fully taught, they are then released into the wild to live the rest of their lives as wolves. One day there's a knock at the door. It General Rakov, the second in command to the Tsar. He threatens Feo and her mother. He tells them that they must shoot the wolves after they are untamed, as one of the newly released wolves killed an elk off of their land. However, it is unlucky to shoot a wolf, so Feo and her mother refuse. The man hurts Feo's mother and leaves, promising that if he sees Feo with a wolf he will shoot the both of them and if they refuse to kill the wolves, he will burn down their house. He does just that and Feo and her mother have to run, but her mother is captured and kept at the prison. Feo along with three wolves (Black, Grey and White) and a friendly soldier is on a journey to rescue her mother. I found this book to have a good storyline and characters, but the pace at times dragged a bit, but overall it was a great read. WOOHOO! *celebratory dance* I absolutely loved it as well. I cant believe it took me so long to read it! Why didn't you guys tell me to read it sooner. Anyway, this series is about a girl called Clary, just a normal teenager. She's at a club with her best friend Simon, when she sees a group of people following someone into a storage cupboard. Simon and everyone else seems to be oblivious to the people, apart from Clary. She decided to follow them. It turn out to be three people, dressed all in black and armed with weapons Clary has never even heard pf. They are called Shadowhunters and the other guy in there is completely the opposite. She tries to stop them killing him, but they just laugh at her. He ends up dead anyway and Clary is told that he's a vampire or a werewolf (I can't remember which). All the people disappear and Clary is left in the storage cupboard till her friend Simon comes in with security. She decides not to tell anyone what she saw, but the next day she sees one of the Shadowhunters again. He's been following her. Then in the next couple of hours, her mother disappears, she nearly gets killed by a demon and her apartment is basically destroyed. Then to top it all off she wakes up in a completely different place and is introduced to a world that's been hidden from her, here entire life. I don't yet have a review up for this as I'm planning on doing a full series review. Just like City of Bones, this didn't disappoint! There's not really much I can say apart from it's the second book in TMI series and a continuation of Clary in the Shadowhunter world. How many books did you read in December? What was your favourite? BYE! Spoiler-Free Review : The Boy Next Door by Katie Van Ark In this intensely romantic novel, Maddy falls in love with her skating partner - who is also the boy next door. Maddy Spier has been in love with the boy next door forever. As his figure-skating partner she spends time in his arms every day. But she's also seen his arms around other girls - lots of other girls. Gabe can't imagine skating with anyone but Maddy, and together they have a real chance at winning some serious gold medals. So he's determined to keep thinking of her like a sister. After all, he's never had a romantic relationship that lasted for more than two weeks. But when their coach assigns a new romantic skating program, everything changes. Will this be the big break that Maddy's been hoping for or the big break-up that Gabe has always feared? I won this in a giveaway a couple of months back through Goodreads (Thank you to Goodreads and the publisher/author for providing the book!) and had been saving it till winter to read. Well, this month I finally read it and it was mainly worth the wait. If you saw on twitter then I did originally say that I really loved it, but after having some time to think about it, maybe I didn't enjoy the book as much as I thought. This will be explained down below. The book features Maddy and Gabe, partners in ice skating. They couldn't imagine their career without each other in it. They've been skating together since day 1 and wouldn't have anyone else than each other. Did I also mention that they both sort of love each other? Well, they do. However, Gabe is the sort of guy who prats around with a bunch of different girls, everyone says his longest relationship lasted two weeks. Maddy is not like that and with her dad, Gabe is scared incase he breaks her heart. If they get together, their relationship could ruin their successful skating partnership. This book is a YA contemporary surrounding ice skating, but it also features problems at home with the character Maddy. Though this is YA, I wouldn't recommend it to the youngest readers as it does feature a small amount of sex, which I wasn't expecting going into it. This book also has dual POV'S from both Maddy and Gabe, which I personally really enjoyed as you got to see both of their opinions on certain events. It also helped move the pace of the book along and kept the book entertaining. Maddy I didn't hate Maddy, but thinking about it maybe she could've been better. She was totally head-over-heels from the start and she was oblivious to Gabe treating her like a doormat. She also made a lot of frustrating decisions, which just made matters worse. However, I did like her in most parts, she was just a bit too clueless in places. Gabe Gabe is a complete jerk. Okay, maybe not a complete one, but he was still jerky. He treated Maddy quite badly at times. Also, he was such a drama queen, but sometimes this part made me laugh as it was quite ridiculous at times. However, he did have his cute moments, like in the woods with the fake marriage thing. The relationship between the two was the thing that mainly frustrated me as it was just so annoying. They both liked each other, but they were both just oohing and aahing about getting together, when they didn't need to be. They both loved each other, so I don't get what the problem with that was. Also, arguments with these two were just so easily caused. They both need to calm down. They would argue over the stupidest things and it was just so aaahhhh! (Basically.) It was like they were competing in the Olympics for the most arguments in a day! Don't get me wrong though, this book has quite a few amazing qualities to it. One of these is that it is so addictive. I found myself in my sleep thinking about this book and times when I couldn't read, I really wanted to. When I did read it though, it was like the book was glued to my hand, I just couldn't put it down!
Overall I did enjoy this book despite it's downsides and I think that I'm going to higher the rate again. haha. I would recommend this book despite my minor problems with it as I have heard that many people loved this book and in a way so did I. 3.75/5 BYE! GR - https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/24171958-the-boy-next-door BD - http://www.bookdepository.com/The-Boy-Next-Door-Katie-Van-Ark/9781250061461 CHRISTMAS BOOK HAUL! I know this is sort of late, but I was busy and I was attempting to fit in as much reading as possible in the free time I do have over Christmas break. I hope you guys all had a great Christmas (if you celebrate it)! Let me know what you got for Christmas down below! Anyway, I received quite a few (okay, a lot!) of books for Christmas and I'm really excited to share them with you as well as read them. I just want to say that I'm not bragging in any way, shape or form. I'm only doing this as a lot of other book bloggers have done it and I know that quite a few of you guys wanted to know what I got. I'm extremely grateful for what I got and couldn't be happier! Let's get into the haul! A LITTLE STORY To start off with I do have a bit of a story to go along with some of these books. Anyway, my Mum and I decided to go book shopping, so I could pick out a few books for her to purchase for me for Christmas. We went to one of my favourite book stores, which is around a 20 minute drive from my house, as it is really cheap and I often find some really great deals there. They don't have new releases often, but I still find some great books for even greater prices. We were having a look around after choosing some books for my Mum and I saw there was like a spinny thing (great description there Beth!) with YA books for a £1 each! I may have freaked out a tiny bit and ran to the spinny thing. Some of the books had a bit of shelf wear (all the books are new, just these were a bit scuffed up), but there was still some really great ones. Anyway, me and my Mum just looked through a bunch of books and stuffed quite a few into the basket/trolley thing as they were only £1 each! Here are the ones I got : I hadn't really heard a lot about any of these, but they just sounded interesting, so I picked them up anyway. Dream Machine by Will Davis This one was more of a sort of joke - my Mum thought it sounded funny so she just put it in the basket, without me really knowing. "Think Popstars, throw in a dash of X Factor and add a pinch of Big Brother." - Scotsman This is what my Mum read and thought it just sounded really funny and cheesy. It was only a pound so if I don't end up liking it, it won't really matter and I can just donate it to my charity shop or something if it comes to it. I hadn't heard of it before, so when I got home I searched it up on Goodreads and it's got awful reviews. I might end up liking it though, I wont know till I try it! I will write a review for this when I do read it. *If you have read this book or any of the ones below, let me know your thoughts!* Skinny B, Skaz and Me by John Singleton I had a quick read of the synopsis of this one and it did sound like something I would enjoy, so I decided to pick it up and it was only a pound. Also, I quite like this cover. The synopsis is sort of vague so it's hard for me to sum it up, but I think it's something to do with this neighbourhood and there is something bad happening or something like that. It sounded interesting so yeah. As I'm really bad at explaining what it's about, I will pasted the synopsis below. Skinny B: Mum's little angel, Dad's little princess, my little sister. Say no more. Skaz? A joker, a kind of mate till he starts giving my life a right good kicking. And me - I'm Lee, face first in trouble right from the moment I walk smack into Hoodz 5. Nothing's safe any more. It's a nightmare. Fifty Fifty by S.L. Powell This was another £1 purchase! The main thing that drew me to this was the synopsis - it sounds really different to things I've read in the past and it does sound like a good read. From what I gather, this book is about a kid called Gil, who's dad is a scientist and they are currently on a collision course. Where they meet Jude, who is an animal rights activist. Obviously Gil's father and Jude aren't going to get on, at all. Stuff kicks loose and chaos erupts and Gil must find a way to overcome a dilemma 'that goes right to the heart of his own identity.' With this final £1 book, I did actually know a bit about it, but never really knew what it was properly about. In Darkness by Nick Lake Like I said, I had heard about this one, but never knew what it was about. When I recognised the title and saw the price, I immediately picked it up to find out more about the story. It sounded like something that I would really enjoy reading and I didn't even think about purchasing it, I had to! Also, I am thinking about reading this quite soon, maybe January, I haven't really decided, but you may see this in a January TBR. Anyway, this book takes place just after the Haitian earthquake in 2010 and features a young boy, who is trapped beneath the rubble of an old hospital. He is hungry, thirsty and alone. I think he is/has been part of a gang and he has witnessed a lot of violence. He desires to be able to find his sister, that he lost 5 years ago. There is also another guy called Toussaint L'Ouverture from the past that somehow links to the young boy and that adds to the story. That may have sounded quite confusing, so I will leave a link at the end to the Goodreads page so you can get a full synopsis. A MUCH SHORTER STORY I promise this wont be as long as that first bit! Most of you will probably know that I am currently reading The Mortal Instruments Series by Cassandra Clare (reviews will be coming soon!) for the first time and have been trying to get the books for as cheap as possible. I had the first book, the third and the fourth. Meaning that I needed the second, the fifth and the sixth to have a complete set. Well, in the same bookshop they had those three remaining books (in the same paperback copies) for £2.99 each, so my Mum said that for Christmasd she would also get those three remaining books for me (I know, she's awesome). Here they are : City of Ashes (Book #2) by Cassandra Clare Like I said, this was one of three books I needed to complete my collection of TMI series. I'm not going to say much about this as it is the second book in the series and spoilers. Basically everyone apart from me has read this series, but if you don't know what it's about I will give a quick summary. Clary is a normal teenage girl, living with her mother. One night she's at a club with her best friend, Simon, when she sees 4 mysterious figures disappearing into a store cupboard. Noone else apart from her seems to be able to see them, so she decides to investigate. One of them turns out to be a vampire and the other three are called Shadowhunters. Clary is confused and leaves it at that. The next day she sees one of the Shadowhunters again and within that same day, her mother disappears, she gets attacked by a demon and she discovers a second world that was hidden from her as a child. That was the summary and I do really recommend this action-packed series if you haven't already read it. I've already read this book and all I'm going to say is 5/5. City of Lost Souls (Book #5) by Cassandra Clare Can't really say much about this as it's the fifth book in TMI series and I'm really looking forward to reading more from this world. City of Heavenly Fire (Book #6) by Cassandra Clare This is the last book in TMI series, so now I have all the books and I may marathon them. I haven't decided yet, but I don't want this series to end, I need more! Back in November (I think) I was browsing through Waterstones' special signed editions and covers for Christmas and I saw The Rest of Us Just Live Here by Patrick Ness (SIGNED) and in the UK cover. I told my Mum that I really wanted this for Christmas as I really wanted to read this book and they had signed copies. I then went on to Book Depository and they also had TROUJLH signed but in the American cover (which I prefer) for a cheaper price. My mum then ordered the Book Depository copy for me instead.THEY STILL HAVE THE SIGNED EDITION - I WILL LEAVE A LINK AT THE END! When I opened the box on Christmas morning, it also turned out to be a First Edition copy as well and the cover is so pretty! I love it and cant wait to delve into the story soon. I just realised that I forgot to include the Illustrated Edition of Harry Potter and The Philosopher's Stone by J.K. Rowling! I will just slot it in here. Anyway, my brothers surprised me by buying me this for Christmas and it's so DAMN BEAUTIFUL. I cant wait to read Harry Potter! I haven't got a picture to put it in this post, but I will probably do a separate post to show the beauty of this book. The final book I got for Christmas was The Novice by Taran Matharu (SIGNED)! Me and my Mum were in Waterstones because I wanted to pick up All Wrapped Up by Holly Smale and I was looking through the shelves to see what else they had and there was a book lying the wrong way ontop of the shelf of books. I picked it up and it was a signed copy of The Novice and so I got it! Hehe.
