5 YA Books Coming Out In January! Hey! It's a new year, so that means I'm back with some new releases coming in January! Last year, I tried every month to share with you some of the diverse releases in YA that were being released. I wasn't sure whether I was going to continue this year, but I realised that there are so many amazing books coming out this year that I just have to. So, they're back! However, this time I've decided that I'm going to show you 5 books each month, because last year there were months where I'd spend hours doing one of these posts and there were also months where it only took half an hour due to how many books were coming coming out that month. So, I thought this way would keep it more consistent and it would ensure that I would be more likely to do this post every month. I've tried to look away from any new releases up until now because I've been trying to save money and get through the books I already have or use the library, but I've already heard some good things so I'm pretty excited to be back doing one of these posts. If you know of any books coming out this month that aren't in this post leave them in the comments below so myself and others can check them out as well. Carry on reading! You'll Miss Me When I'm Gone by Rachel Lynn Solomon Genre(s) - YA Contemporary - Character with Huntington's Disease - Jewish Characters Synopsis: Eighteen-year-old twins Adina and Tovah have little in common besides their ambitious nature. Viola prodigy Adina yearns to become a soloist—and to convince her music teacher he wants her the way she wants him. Overachiever Tovah awaits her acceptance to Johns Hopkins, the first step on her path toward med school and a career as a surgeon. But one thing could wreck their carefully planned futures: a genetic test for Huntington’s, a rare degenerative disease that slowly steals control of the body and mind. It’s turned their Israeli mother into a near stranger and fractured the sisters’ own bond in ways they’ll never admit. While Tovah finds comfort in their Jewish religion, Adina rebels against its rules. When the results come in, one twin tests negative for Huntington’s. The other tests positive. These opposite outcomes push them farther apart as they wrestle with guilt, betrayal, and the unexpected thrill of first love. How can they repair their relationship, and is it even worth saving? From debut author Rachel Lynn Solomon comes a luminous, heartbreaking tale of life, death, and the fragile bond between sisters. Our story begins on a frosty night… Laylee can barely remember the happier times before her beloved mother died. Before her father, driven by grief, lost his wits (and his way). Before she was left as the sole remaining mordeshoor in the village of Whichwood, destined to spend her days washing the bodies of the dead and preparing their souls for the afterlife. But soon, a pair of familiar strangers appears, and Laylee’s world is turned upside down as she rediscovers color, magic, and the healing power of friendship. RELEASE DATE - 14TH November 2017 GR - https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/31563982-whichwood BD - https://www.bookdepository.com/Whichwood/9781101994795 Not Now Not Ever by Lily Anderson - POC Character Synopsis: Elliot Gabaroche is very clear on what she isn't going to do this summer. 1. She isn't going to stay home in Sacramento, where she'd have to sit through her stepmother's sixth community theater production of The Importance of Being Earnest. 2. She isn't going to mock trial camp at UCLA. 3. And she certainly isn't going to the Air Force summer program on her mother's base in Colorado Springs. As cool as it would be to live-action-role-play Ender's Game, Ellie's seen three generations of her family go through USAF boot camp up close, and she knows that it's much less Luke/Yoda/"feel the force," and much more one hundred push-ups on three days of no sleep. And that just isn't appealing, no matter how many Xenomorphs from Alien she'd be able to defeat afterwards. What she is going to do is pack up her attitude, her favorite Octavia Butler novels, and her Jordans, and go to summer camp. Specifically, a cutthroat academic-decathlon-like competition for a full scholarship to Rayevich College, the only college with a Science Fiction Literature program. And she's going to start over as Ever Lawrence, on her own terms, without the shadow of all her family’s expectations. Because why do what’s expected of you when you can fight other genius nerds to the death for a shot at the dream you’re sure your family will consider a complete waste of time? This summer's going to be great. It's Christmas Eve in Harlem, but twelve-year-old Lolly Rachpaul and his mom aren't celebrating. They're still reeling from his older brother's death in a gang-related shooting just a few months earlier. Then Lolly's mother's girlfriend brings him a gift that will change everything: two enormous bags filled with Legos. Lolly's always loved Legos, and he prides himself on following the kit instructions exactly. Now, faced with a pile of building blocks and no instructions, Lolly must find his own way forward. His path isn't clear--and the pressure to join a "crew," as his brother did, is always there. When Lolly and his friend are beaten up and robbed, joining a crew almost seems like the safe choice. But building a fantastical Lego city at the community center provides Lolly with an escape--and an unexpected bridge back to the world. David Barclay Moore paints a powerful portrait of a boy teetering on the edge--of adolescence, of grief, of violence--and shows how Lolly's inventive spirit helps him build a life with firm foundations and open doors. (YA & Middle Grade) Hi Guys, It's now July (well, it's June when I'm writing this) and it's time for another new releases post. I've tried hard this year to make sure I get one of these up every month and I think so far I've succeeded (I'm not really sure) even if I've had to combine months together. Every month I've been trying to include more diverse books in these posts that are for YA and MG/Children's and I think it's working a lot better now. I'm actually really enjoying searching around through different pages etc to find new releases and I find it one of my favourite posts to write. If there is any certain diverse feature of books (#ownvoices, LGBTQ+, religion, race etc) you want me to do a post on or try and include more of, let me know below and I'll make sure to do so. Without further ado, let's get into the new releases! Indigo Donut by Patrice Lawrence - Biracial Character Synopsis: A story of longing, belonging and trust. When Bailey and Indigo meet at sixth form, sparks fly. But when Bailey becomes the target of a homeless man who seems to know more about Indigo than is normal, Bailey is forced to make a choice he should never have to make. The palace is soon under siege, and Amrita finds herself a fugitive, utterly alone but for an oracle named Thala, who was kept by Sikander as a slave and managed to escape amid the chaos. With nothing and no one else to turn to, Amrita and Thala are forced to rely on each other. But while Amrita feels responsible for her kingdom and sets out to warn her people, the newly free Thala has no such ties. She encourages Amrita to go on a quest to find the fabled Library of All Things, where it is possible for each of them to reverse their fates. To go back to before Sikander took everything from them.
