Book Blitz: Don't Forget The Parsley by Marie Claire Lim Moore Marie Claire Lim Moore builds on her first memoir, Don’t Forget the Soap, offering more entertaining stories about her family in this follow up. Like her first book, Don’t Forget the Parsley is a collection of anecdotes from different points in Claire’s life: stories from her second-generation immigrant childhood in Vancouver and New York City mix with recent expat experiences in Singapore and Hong Kong where she balances multiple roles as wife and mother, corporate executive and author. Her positively Filipino parents continue to have a big influence on her whether it comes to managing family and career, meeting heads of state and world leaders or simply making new friends. From stray observations (everything is funnier at church) and midnight anxieties (if Jessica Simpson gets to go to the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, why shouldn’t I?) to life mantras (don’t let perfection hold you back) and litmus tests (would you serve drinks at my mother’s art show?), Claire’s warm and honest storytelling will resonate with readers and leave them smiling. Marie Claire Lim Moore is Filipina-Canadian-American banker, author and speaker. Her first book, Don’t Forget the Soap (And Other Reminders from My Fabulous Filipina Mother), became an Amazon.com best seller and was featured by GMA Network as one of the best books of 2013. After spending the early part of her childhood in Vancouver, Claire moved to New York City and attended the United Nations International School. She went on to study at Yale, climb the corporate ladder at Citi and travel around the world. She met her husband, Alex, while working in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and they married in Manila, Philippines shortly before moving to Singapore and most recently Hong Kong. Now Mom to Carlos, Isabel and Sofia, Claire also manages the Global Client business for Citi in Asia. Claire is passionate about promoting career-family balance through her talks as well as her writing. She is regularly ranked among leaders in the Asian and Filipino-American professional community and her experiences have been documented in The New York Times, USA Today, Smart Parenting and People Asia. In 2014, she received the 100 Most Influential Filipina Women in the World Award™ (Global FWN100™) that recognizes Filipina women who are influencing the face of leadership in the global workplace.

Book Spotlight: Another 22 Stories Anthology by Michael Ross Title - Another 22 Short Stories (Anthology) Author - Michael Ross Synopsis - As with the other book Another Twenty Two Short Stories is a varied group of tales. This book contains no erotica, sci-fi or fantasy fiction. However there are stories that should tickle the imagination and to ask: Why did that happen? What happened next? Can I trust the narrator? A girl playing her banjo on the beach is interrupted by a stranger, a young girl in Moscow 1932 goes searching for bread, a couple make a nostalgic return to Vienna, a man struggled through an overgrown forest carrying a mysterious box, a millionaire staring out of his penthouse suite is badly shaken by what he witnesses, a young girl comes home to find all she had to eat is cold sausages and chips, an Edwardian doctor's life is turned upside down by the arrival of the British Prime Minister. Twenty two stories that are all very different, intending to stimulate the reader's imagination and creativity. AUTHOR BIO
It was a strange and twisting road that led to the publishing of my second novel. Born and raised in Bristol, England. I spent my adult life in business, the majority of that time marketing cars. I eventually owned the largest Saab specialist in the world, before a divorce put an end to that part of my life. This led me to leave Bristol to live halfway up a mountain in the Welsh valleys, start a part time six year English Literature course at Bristol University, and attend creative writing classes in Cardiff. My interest in English literature flourished and I have won several prizes for my short stories. My first book, 'Twenty Short Stories - Settling a score,' reached No 6 in the Short Stories Best Sellers and is still available. My second novel, a romantic thriller entitled Hand Over Fist was released earlier this year. Chasing What's Already Gone evolved from a short story Carpe Diem in my second anthology Twenty One Short Stories. I could not get the two main characters out of my head and I had to find out what happened to them after the end of the short story. I now live very happily halfway up that mountain in the Welsh Valleys with my wonderful partner, Mari, and our rescue dog, Wolfie. *I was sent an ebook copy of this book in trade of an honest review. All opinions are my own* I was scrolling through blog tours etc and signing up to a few to help restart my blog up after a few inactive months and when I saw this one I knew I just had to sign up for it! Reading the synopsis had me really intrigued to find out what this book would be like, I wasn't exactly sure on what to expect as I have previously found some fantasy and dystopian books a bit boring after a while, but this one was the complete opposite. Rhodi's Light was full of action from start to finish and each chapter left me wanting more. Writing Style The writing style was one of the things I wasn't exactly sure what to expect with, as with previous books I've read (of the same genres) have had quite long, dragging sentences. However, I fell in love with the writing style! The sentences were the perfect length (for me), but still carried a lot of detail which I loved. Megan's character descriptions were just one of my favourite parts to read! Also, the action scenes were some of the best I've read in a long time, they were so action packed and I found myself sat on the edge of my seat clutching my iPad in my hands with anticipation! I was reading so quickly with anticipation, that I found myself missing words out and having to go back and reread paragraphs. Characters If you guys follow me on twitter (@sprinkleofbooks) you may seen my tweets about the character relationships in this books. UGGHHH! They were some of the best I've ever read! My favourite was Talidan and Dylan by far, right from the start they don't get on, but throughout the book their relationship develops hugely, so much that I was crying at the end of the book (if you've read Rhodi's Light then you'll know why)! I just completely fell in love with these characters and the cuteness and bond between them is just to die for! One character (not going to name incase of spoilers) does suffer with depression and anxiety (especially panic attacks) and the book does feature scenes of self harm, which there is a warning for at the start of the book. They are obviously upsetting, but I'm not sure on what ages they are best for, as I don't want to guess and then end up upsetting people. I am 13 (14 in October) and I did find the scenes sad (which is pretty much a guarantee), but I don't think they affected me too much. I think if you are sensitive to these sort of situations, then I would definitely check out some other reviews to see what they recommend, or you can always ask Megan on Goodreads etc, but just know this sort of thing is in Rhodi's Light. There is quite a few characters I would love to find out more about, that I'm hoping feature in the other two books, Rhodi's Rising (#2) and Rhodi's Lullaby (#3). Pace I found the pace to be basically perfect. The actions scenes as I've already mentioned happen so quickly as if you're the one doing the fighting! I did find near the start that things felt as if they were going a bit too quickly, but I personally think that it did go well with the plot and left more of the book dedicated to a 'newish start' (if you've read the book, you might understand what I mean). Rate Overall, I would thoroughly recommend this book as I completely fell in love with it and I want more people to! I definitely hope to read the sequels and continue on after that huge cliffhanger :O Rate - 5/5 Giveaway: Tour-wide giveaway (INTL)
