TimeHopAThon TBR!. Hey! Today the TimeHopAThon starts and I'm planning on taking part, so I thought I'd share with you my TBR. The readathon is taking place between the 19th and the 25th February. I found this readathon through Cherri Walker's channel on YouTube and thought it seemed like one I would be able to complete. There are three challenges to the readathon and you can double up challenges for books. I've got two books on my TBR as I'm using one book for two challenges and one for the last challenge. Here are the hosts: Cherrie Walker - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCfUmv7g-XoG68fYpiahtcuA Paper Faerie: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCDUG... Carry on reading! Wave Me Goodbye by Jacqueline Wilson Challenges used: 1) Past: Read a classic or historical fiction 2) Present: Read a book published in 2017 or 2018 This book has been on my TBR since it came out and recently I've been really wanting to pick it up, but I decided to save it especially for this readathon. It was published last year and is a historical fiction, focusing on World War 2 and evacuees. Synopsis: September, 1939. As the Second World War begins, ten-year-old Shirley is sent away on a train with her schoolmates. She doesn’t know where she’s going, or what’s going to happen to her when she gets there. All she has been told is that she’s going on ‘a little holiday’. Shirley is billeted in the country, with two boys from East End London, Kevin and Archie – and their experiences living in the strange, half-empty Red House, with the mysterious and reclusive Mrs Waverley, will change their lives for ever. Award-winning, bestselling and beloved author Jacqueline Wilson turns to this period of history for the first time, in this beautiful, moving story of friendship and bravery against the backdrop of the worst conflict the world has ever known. GR - https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/33876563-wave-me-goodbye?ac=1&from_search=true BD - https://www.bookdepository.com/Wave-Me-Goodbye-Jacqueline-Wilson-Nick-Sharratt/9780857535177?ref=grid-view&qid=1519051451435&sr=1-2 Only Ever Yours by Louise O'Neill Challenges used: 3) Future: Read a book set in the future e.g. dystopian or fantasy I brought this book a year or two ago and I never really knew what it was about. When searching for books to fit with these challenges, I came across this one and it seems like something I'd be really interested in. I've heard some good things about Louise O'Neill's books and I'm excited to get into this one. Synopsis: In a world in which baby girls are no longer born naturally, women are bred in schools, trained in the arts of pleasing men until they are ready for the outside world. At graduation, the most highly rated girls become “companions”, permitted to live with their husbands and breed sons until they are no longer useful. For the girls left behind, the future – as a concubine or a teacher – is grim. Best friends Freida and Isabel are sure they’ll be chosen as companions – they are among the most highly rated girls in their year. But as the intensity of final year takes hold, Isabel does the unthinkable and starts to put on weight. .. And then, into this sealed female environment, the boys arrive, eager to choose a bride. Freida must fight for her future – even if it means betraying the only friend, the only love, she has ever known. . . GR - https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/21805717-only-ever-yours BD - https://www.bookdepository.com/Only-Ever-Yours/9781784294007 That was the two books I'm hoping to knock out during this readathon. I'm hoping to finish these by the end of the readathon and maybe fit in another book if I can.

Excerpt:#1As a princess, the oldest of three sisters, and future queen of England, I, of course, did the mature thing when my parents told me that I was to marry the King of Tara. I ran. Allete Auvray, noble born heiress of the Britannia empire, ran. No, I did not run away. There would be no point in that. My father would have sent guards searching for me like crazed hounds to drag me back before I even made it to the borders of our land. No, I ran only as far as my familiar old oak tree. The ancient tree that had become a sanctuary to me and my cousin, Thomas, when we were children—our place of refuge. Disregarding the fact that I was clothed in one of my finer dresses, I hoisted myself up on to the lowest branch and then continued, up and up, until I was sitting high enough that I could see the whole of my father’s lands, spreading out before me like a giant green picnic blanket. It was a beautiful and bountiful kingdom, but it was a gilded cage for me. The day that I had dreaded had finally come. I had always known that one day that I would be married off to a nobleman. As the oldest, it was my duty to either marry a nobleman worthy of becoming king of England, or marry another king in order to secure an alliance beneficial to our empire. Every decision was about power for my family, how to gain it, and how to keep it. The king who held the most land and the largest army was the one everyone else feared. It didn’t matter what I personally wanted. It didn’t matter that I would be wed to someone that I did not love, or someone that did not love me. Nothing mattered except what my father, the king, wanted. GIVEAWAY - ENDS FEBRUARY 22ND 2018

BYE! Currently-Reading Friday! - (16/2/2018) Hey! In the past couple of weeks, I haven't been uploading these posts. Part of this was that for the majority of January I wasn't really reading much and didn't have anything to update you on. Another part was that after having school all week, by Friday I'm just so tired that I can't keep my focus long enough to do these posts. Last week, I wrote the majority of the post and meant to finish it off, but just forgot about finishing and uploading it, so I ended up just binning it. I'm back this week though! It is currently Saturday as I'm writing this, so it is late, but I just really want to write and get up a post. I've been neglecting my blog in the past week or so, but hopefully I can get back on track soon and maybe start a schedule to help me stay on track. Anyway, I'll talk about that in more detail in another post, because right now I need to tell you about my reading week. This week was the Contemporary-A-Thon and I decided I would take part, but loosely as I did have school. I was going to post a TBR, but things got on top of me and I hadn't really planned a book for each challenge because I knew I wouldn't complete them all. I just sort of used the books I was currently reading and tried to match them to as many challenges as I could. Due to me taking part in the readathon, I was hoping to read more, but I just ended up sorting of only reading one or two books, but I'll tell you about them now. Carry on reading! Finished Reading (Since 9/2/2018): Hetty Feather's Christmas by Jacqueline Wilson Date Started - 10/2/2018 Date Finished - 10/2/2018 Last week I finished my reread of the Hetty Feather series and finally read Little Stars for the first time. Seeing as I was still longing for more of Hetty, I decided to jump straight into this short novella. Even though it's no longer Christmas, this still made me feel quite festive. It's a short story all about a Christmas that Hetty had while at the Foundling Hospital. It also crosses over to Jacqueline Wilson's new series starting with Clover Moon. I haven't yet read Clover Moon, but after seeing glimpses of her character in this, I can't wait to pick it up and hopefully soon. Synopsis: Cosy up for Christmas with this brand-new festive story, starring everyone's favourite Victorian foundling, Hetty Feather! An unexpected gift leads to trouble for Hetty on Christmas Day at the Foundling Hospital, and the dreaded Matron Bottomly is delighted to have an excuse to exclude Hetty from the festive celebrations. Poor Hetty is distraught – but just when it seems that all is lost, a dear friend arrives to whisk her away for a Christmas unlike any other . . . Full of friendship, fun and festive cheer, this beautifully-packaged hardback is complete with stunning illustrations by Nick Sharratt and fabulous bonus material featuring fun facts about the Victorian Christmas. The perfect stocking-filler for every Jacqueline Wilson fan. (The Spinster Club #1) by Holly Bourne Date Started - 14/2/2018 Date Finished - 16/2/2018 I picked this to read for a couple of the challenges for the Contemporary-A-Thon. I've read this book before as well as the second book in the series, How Hard Can Love Be? and absolutely loved both. I was originally just going to read the third book, What's A Girl Gotta Do? for the readathon as I haven't yet read it, but I had a sudden urge to reread the first two books first and well, here we are now! Once again I absolutely loved this book. It makes me all emotional and I just love everything about it. It touches on some quite difficult topics and Holly could easily avoid these all together and write about a completely different character, but instead creates a realistic character and tackles these topics head on. Though this probably wasn't the best choice for a readathon as it is quite long, I wanted to read it so I did. I'm really looking forward to reading the rest of this series and cry some more. Synopsis: All Evie wants is to be normal. She’s almost off her meds and at a new college where no one knows her as the girl-who-went-crazy. She’s even going to parties and making friends. There’s only one thing left to tick off her list… But relationships are messy – especially relationships with teenage guys. They can make any girl feel like they’re going mad. And if Evie can’t even tell her new friends Amber and Lottie the truth about herself, how will she cope when she falls in love? GR - https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/23592235-am-i-normal-yet?ac=1&from_search=true BD - https://www.bookdepository.com/Am-I-Normal-Yet-/9781409590309 Currently Reading: Wunderkids: Part 1 - Wildwood Academy by Jacqueline Silvester On Page 32 of 316 I was sent this book for review, but haven' really had a chance to get that far into it. I'm off school this week, so I'm hoping I can get a bit further with it then. Synopsis: 15-year-old Nikka is invited to attend Wildwood Academy, a prestigious but secret boarding school for talented youth located deep in the Californian mountains. Once there, Nikka quickly falls in love with her bizarre classes, the jaw-dropping scenery and... two very different boys. However, Wildwood Academy has a dark and twisted secret, one that could cost Nikka the one thing she had never imagined she could lose, the one thing that money can’t buy. It is this very thing that Wildwood Academy was created to steal. Nikka can stay and lose everything, or she can risk death and run. GR - https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/34659493-wunderkids?ac=1&from_search=true BD - https://www.bookdepository.com/Wunderkids-Jacqueline-Silvester/9781999734602 Well that was the books I've read in the past week as well as the book I'm currently reading. This week coming up I hope to read some more of Wunderkids, start How Hard Can Love Be? by Holly Bourne before I take part in the Time Hop-A-Thon.

The sound of it set my nerves on edge, and my old instincts kicked in. The runner didn’t slow as the footsteps approached. I moved to grab the knife hidden out of sight under my apron, but my hands were all tied up with Lord Dodgson. If I let go, he would fall. “Watch yourself, boy. What? Hey,” the footman called. A boy with a mop of striking white hair, wearing an expensive but oversized waistcoat, slipped between us and was gone again in a flash. “My pocket watch! My grandfather’s pocket watch,” Lord Dodgson cried, clutching his vest where he always kept his pocket watch. “Stop that boy. He stole my pocket watch. Alice!” I glanced up the street to see the boy dangle the pocket watch teasingly before us. “Rabbit,” I hissed. “Your Grace…I need to—” “Go, Alice. Go.” The footman held tightly onto Lord Dodgson so I could let go. I turned and faced the boy. Rabbit, the little albino street rat, was grinning at me. Sneaky little pickpocket. What was he doing in my part of town? He’d grabbed the watch so deftly. Not bad. Some people said he was almost as good as I used to be. Almost. Excerpt 2:“If you say it again, I’ll stab you,” I said as I struggled to adjust the formal gown. The bulging bustle of fabric on my backside made my lower back itch, and my corset was too tight. A proper lady’s gown indeed, but I wondered how anyone who dressed in proper fashion got anything done. I touched the brim of my tiny top hat. It, along with my parasol, were the only pieces of the outfit I actually liked. Of course, the parasol had a feature that allowed me to slip the White Queen into the shaft to serve as a handle. Leave it to the Countess to think of that. “All I said was that you look lovely. I hardly think that’s a stabbing offense.” “Shows what you know,” I replied as I eyed him sidelong. He had changed into a fine suit and wore a black top hat. I both hated and loved being there with him. My conflicting emotions made me cranky. “Tickets,” said a man standing just outside the door of the Crystal Palace. “Good morning,” William said politely and handed the man our tickets. The man stamped the date on the tickets then handed them back. Nodding, he motioned for us to enter. Taking me gently by the arm, as a gentleman ought to do, William escorted me inside. While the Crystal Palace’s ornate structure, made of glass and iron, towering several stories high was a sight to behold from the outside, nothing quite prepared me for the marvels inside. As we entered, a cacophony of sounds reached our ears. The sweet melodies coming from a stand of self-playing harps, the screech of monkeys, the hum of machines, and the sounds of hundreds of voices rolled to our ears all at once. The structure had been built around the tall ash trees that had stood in the park. They still stood standing tall in the middle of the structure. Fountains lined the center promenade. The crowd gasped and stepped back as a group from Africa passed on their way toward their display, lions on leashes walking in front of them. Not far behind them, a man wearing a straw hat jogged past pulling a rickshaw, two laughing—and elegantly dressed—ladies inside. I gasped as a man flew overhead on wings made of lightweight material. To my great surprise, he flapped his wings, the metal of the clockwork bones and joints revealed when the sun overhead struck him just right. William chuckled. “Shall we take it all in?” Barely able to breathe, I nodded. “Now, there is my Alice,” he said softly. “Her curious eyes open wide.” I smiled. “It’s a wonderland.” GIVEAWAY Blitz-wide giveaway (US only)
