Hey Guys.
Seeing as everyone else is doing this same post, I thought I'd join in and talk about some of the reading goals I set in 2016 and see if I completed them as well as set some new goals for 2017. 2016 was a year of many ups and downs and my reading was a bit similar, I was in a bad reading slump for a couple of months and overall my reading didn't go as well as I hoped it would this year. I've had a look back at some of my goals for 2016 and I can't believe how ambitious I was trying to be and it's actually hilarious to read through them and then look at my current situation. I'm going to leave a link to the post and then I'm going to go one by one and talk about the goals and whether I managed to complete it. I actually started the year off with 60 books as my target, but ended up lowering it by the time summer came around. However, I did manage to complete my lowered goal and read 50 books. 2) I then listed three series that I wanted to complete, so I'll go through them now. Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling - I did mention in my goals post that I had a buddy read planned for this whole series and that didn't really work and we stopped after the first book. I didn't manage to finish the whole series but I have now finished book 5 and can't wait to continue. I'm not too bothered that I didn't finish this series as I was/am trying to spread out the reading of them and make sure I'm enjoying them. The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare - I said in my 2016 goals that I only had to read the last three books, but that wasn't completely true as I also had to read the Infernal Devices inbetween, which I didn't own. I do now have Clockwork Angel so I can carry on a bit more with this series now until I have to buy or borrow the nex books in The Infernal Devices. I didn't complete this goal. Maze Runner by James Dashner - I still haven't started this series, but I think I will do as soon as I've finished or read a bit more of Harry Potter and/or The Mortal Instruments. I didn't complete this goal. 3) To read all the books on my TBR - HA HA HA HA HA HA. I said in my 2016 post that I'd put myself on a book buying ban for the whole year and well I think that lasted a week. I'd actually forgotten that I'd said that and now my TBR is triple the size it was. My TBR is now just under 100 books. I can't believe I set that as a goal for myself and actually feel so embarassed about it now, eek. I completely failed this goal. That was all of the very random and forgotten reading goals I set myself for 2016. I will now begin with some of the more realistic reading goals I have for 2017. 2017 Reading Goals This year I'm going to try and set more realistic goals and actually try and stick to them. I'm going to do the same and go one by one through them. 1) To read as many books as I can - This year I have decided to not set a Goodreads reading goal in order to see whether it helps me to read books that I've been avoiding due to their length etc. I'm hoping this will help with my growing TBR. 2) To buy less books - I'm not completely going to stop myself from buying books as I know that won't happen, but I'm going to try and buy a bit less to once again help with my TBR pile. 3) Get my TBR down to 80 books or under by the end of 2017 - As I said above my TBR is currently just under 100 by one or two books and I'm determined to focus on lowering it. I thought I'd aim to get to 80 books and that may seem really easy for sa lot of people, but I am actually quite nervous about it. Basically, I'm not sure about an exact number goal, but I just want to get my TBR lower, even if that's just by one book. 4) To post at least once a week on my blog and Instagram - This isn't really a reading challenge, but this is something I keep saying I will do, but just never follow through with it. This year I'm determined to not neglect this blog or my bookstagram and I think a minimum of 1 post a week is a good place to start. 5) To be harsher with my ratings and reviews - Last year I gave pretty much every book I read a 4 or 5 star. This is something I want to stop doing and try to be a bit more critical of the books I read. I think this will actually be a bit of a hard goal for me, but I really want to try and stick to it. These are all the goals I'm setting myself. They are quite vague/loose goals, but I think that'll help me to achieve them and to remember them. I was thinking of doing a post of some books that I want to read in 2017 as another goal, but I think I'm going to just leave it like this to try and not put myself under too much pressure. Let me know your reading goals for 2017 below! BYE!
