Spoiler-Free Review: The Adventures of Fawn, Book 1: 'Til the Last Snowflake Falls by Al. E. Boy11/29/2016 Spoiler-Free Review: The Adventure of Fawn, Book 1: 'Til the Last Snowflake Falls by Al. E. Boy Title - The Adventures of Fawn, Book 1: 'Til the Last Snowflake Falls Author - Al. E. Boy Genre - Children's Fiction Synopsis - The series is a ‘coming of age’ tale set in the year 1849. It tells of the adventures of Fawn, the precocious young daughter of legendary reindeer, Comet and Vixen. Initially, she has no friends and spends her days alone in the stable at Santa’s Village. She argues with her parents…wanting the freedom to go outside the Village to explore. But her parents forbid her to go outside by herself. *I was sent an ebook copy of this book in trade for an honest review, as part of a blog tour.* I did include the books' synopsis above, but I'll just give a bit more background information. This book is set in the North Pole, in and around 'Santa's Village'. The main character is a young reindeer called Fawn, who is Comet and Vixen's daughter. Fawn spends every day in her little hut, while her parents go to train with the other reindeers. She doesn't have anyone to keep her company other than The Forgetful Twins, who as you guessed are extremely forgetful, so she can't really play with them. All she wants to do is to go outside the village, but no matter how much she begs and argues with her parents, she is not allowed. One day she overhears The Forgetful Twins talking about the password to get in and out of the village and they also leave the gate open. So as you can probably guess, Fawn takes her chance and leaves the village. She meets two new friends, Snowboy and Bunny and each day Fawn leaves the village to meet with them. However, one day some bad things happen and everyone has to go out looking for her. She promises to never leave the village again, but when mysterious things start to happen she leaves, but gets in a lot of trouble outside of the village. Everyone has no choice but to come together and try and solve what's going on in the North Pole. Storyline/Plot I personally find that 'Til the Last Snowflake Falls has a great storyline and is full of adventure. I did find some things guessable throughout the book, but I knew that was going to happen as the book is aimed at children (although, this didn't take away from the enjoyment I felt). The book features a lot about friendships and how reliable Fawn's friends were. No matter what trouble they got into, they were always there for each other and I think that is a really important message for children, who read this book. I think the story was quite different and overall a great winter read for a person of any age. Characters I'm just going to start off by saying there were quite a lot of characters, but each and every one had something unique about them. I loved the way some very different characters fitted so well with each other and I think the characters were planned/created very well. I mentioned above about the friendships in this book, which were a very important part, but they really were very good. Snowboy, Bunny, and Fawn are very different yet the close-knit bond they shared really was the best. Another brilliant thing about the characters was near the end when the village came together to help those who needed it. Even people like The Forgetful Twins were able to help, even if they weren't sure what to do. I think my favourite character(s) has to be The Forgetful Twins as they did make me laugh at times and they were just so innocent. Writing Style I enjoyed the writing style and think the layout of the book (short sentences and paragraphs) would make it easier for children to read and enjoy. The writing style wasn't too difficult and overall, I think it fitted well with the type of book it is well (children's). Overall, I did enjoy the book and think it's a great read to get you into the festive spirit. I would recommend it for more Primary school aged-kids (Middle-Grade) as I think they're probably the age to get the most enjoyment out of it. However, the book can be read by anyone and I'm sure most people can get even a tiny bit of enjoyment out of it. Rate - 3.5 - 4/5 About the Author Through almost 40 years as a Santa Claus, Al E. Boy developed quite a repertoire of tales to explain and answer the many questions children ask about Santa, the North Pole, his reindeer, and his friends, the elves. It was this collection of tales which prompted him to begin writing The Adventures of Fawn. Through the young daughter of legendary reindeer Comet and Vixen, he's been able to weave an exciting, colorful, imaginative world which will delight readers of all ages!
